Arsenal to make January bid for Schalke star

Arsenal are believed to be lining up a bid for the services of Schalke 04 defender Benedikt Howedes, according to a report.

The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is well aware of the club's lack of defensive strength and is considering a move for a top-class defender in the upcoming transfer window.

According to The People, the German international was watched by the Gunners' scouts during Schalke's 4-0 win over Stuttgart last weekend.

The report adds that the North London outfit will make an offer of around £15m for the talented defender, given his versatility of playing at either left-back on centre-defence.
