Schalke closing in on Khedira

Schalke are believed to be inching closer to sealing a deal for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira.

The German international's current deal at Los Blancos expires at the end of the season, and there have been no talks regarding a contract extension.

According to German sports daily Bild, the World Cup winner will seek a fresh challenge away from La Liga this summer, with Schalke believed to be the front-runners to land his signature on a Bosman fee transfer.

Arsenal and Chelsea have been previously linked with the midfield enforcer.
