Ferdinand retires from football at 36

Former England international Rio Ferdinand has called quits to his professional footballing career following his release from Queens Park Rangers earlier this week.



The 36-year-old has decided against pursuing another contract following his release from the Hoops.

Ferdinand revealed to BT Sport of his decision to retire from the beautiful game this afternoon.

The veteran centre-back played for West Ham United, Leeds United, Manchester United and Queens Park Rangers in his 19-year long career.

He enjoyed his most successful spell at the Red Devils between 2002 and 2014, where he won six Premier League titles, three League Cups, one FA Cup and the most prestigious of all, The Champions League.

Ferdinand earned 81 caps for England, scoring three goals for his nation.
