Liverpool interested in Joe Gomez

Liverpool are considering the option of making an approach for Charlton Athletic defender Joe Gomez.

The 18-year-old, who can play at either centre-back or right-back is understood to have caught the eye of the Reds as they prepare to offload defender Sebastian Coates.

According to PA Sport, the Reds are confident that a £3.5m bid would be sufficient to tempt Charlton into Gomez's sale.

It has also been reported that the Reds will allow the sale of Coates to Sunderland for £4m this summer, after spending last season on loan at the Wearside.
