Sunderland to sign Lamine Kone

Sunderland are set to announce the signing of Lorient defender Lamine Kone when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

The Black Cats have had a tough time in the league this season, and have already conceded a hefty tally of 38 goals in 19 outings.

Manager Sam Allardyce had recently hinted that the club could be busy in the transfer market as he seeks to keep the club aloft in the Premier League in May.

Lorient vice-president Alex Hayes has now confirmed that Kone will move to the Wearside next month after the club agreed on an undisclosed fee for his transfer.

"We have received an offer that we have accepted," he told reporters. "It is now up to Lamine to find an agreement with Sunderland and to pass the medical before the transfer can be made official."

Sunderland are currently stranded in 19th place with just 12 points.
