England international Michael Carrick has inked a new deal to keep him at Manchester United until the summer of 2017. The 34-year-old is currently the club's second longest serving player having joined them from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.

The veteran has committed his immediate future to the Red Devils after he received assurances of playing a regular role next season.

"I am delighted that this incredible journey is continuing. It's great to have the opportunity to work under Jose Mourinho," he told the club's official website.

"I would like to thank the fans for their unwavering support."

Carrick had been the subject of interest from several Chinese and Australian clubs before he inked an extension at Old Trafford.
