Higuaín could be set for historical transfer to Juventus

Juventus are ready to activate Gonzalo Higuaín's €94 million release clause, with the player open to a move, according to reports in Italy.

Sky Italia are reporting that the Italian champions are set to make a sensational swoop to take Argentinian striker Higuaín to Turin, simultaneously dealing a blow to last season's title rivals Napoli.

A potential Higuaín switch to the Old Lady would also be a blow to Arsenal, as the Gunners were said to have made a player plus cash offer to Napoli for the former Real Madrid and River Plate player, which would have seen French striker Olivier Giroud go in the other direction.

Napoli are extremely reluctant to part ways with their best player -- whose record breaking 36 goals in Serie A last season guided the club to a second place finish -- and would be unlikely to accept an offer below the release clause figure. Especially from a rival team.

It has been reported that Juventus will either offer to pay the buyout fee in two instalments, or offer players plus cash to soften the financial blow.

Higuaín has supposedly given the ok for the move to go ahead. If this mega deal is completed, the 28-year-old will become the highest paid player in Serie A with an annual salary of €7.5 million per year, a full €1 million more than current top earner AS Roma's Daniele De Rossi.
