Mario Götze is set to complete a return to Borussia Dortmund, after BVB have agreed a €26 million deal with Bayern Munich.

The agreement has been confirmed by both clubs via social media, and Götze will return to the club he controversially left in 2013, subject to a medical.

The rumours of a Götze return to BVB gathered pace recently following Henrikh Mkhitaryan's move to Manchester United last month.

BVB have already added a wealth of exciting young talent to their squad, with the signings of Ousmane Dembélé, Emre Tor, Raphael Guerrero and Mikel Moreno.

In addition to the incoming youngsters, Dortmund have also added some more experienced heads in Sebastian Rode from Bayern Munich, and centre-back Marc Bartra from FC Barcelona.

But it is believed that BVB were keen to add a more experienced player to their attacking options to absorb the loss of Mkitaryan. Moves for Götze and VfL Wolfsburg's former Chelsea winger André Schürrle have been rumoured for some weeks.

And now it seems like Götze's return to Signal Iduna Park is all but sealed.

Götze controversially left Dortmund in 2013, when Bayern met his contractual release clause of €37 million, and announced the deal before the two sides met in the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium.

The 23-year-old will have to work hard to win over many of the fans who still hold a grudge at the way he left three years ago.
