Wenger refused England job

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger reportedly turned down the chance to become England's next manager. The Frenchman was the leading candidate to takeover the hotseat before he snubbed discussions.

The Football Association had made contact with Wenger regarding the Three Lions job after Roy Hodgson's subsequent resignation last month.

However, the 66-year-old was reluctant to break his Gunners contract, and therefore dismissed the opportunity of coaching the national side.

Wenger currently has a year left on his existing deal, and it is thought that he would pen an extension midway through the next campaign.

Sunderland coach Sam Allardyce is expected to be named as Hodgson's successor later today.

'Big' Sam will have huge boots to fill in the coming months following England's embarrassing defeat to Iceland at the round of 16 of the European championships.
