£100m too much for Pogba claims Man Utd legend Scholes

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has commented on speculation that his former club are set to complete a world record deal to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus, by claiming that the French midfielder is not worth the type of money United appear ready to pay.

Pogba previously played for United, but left Old Trafford as a teenager in 2012, having grown frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities he was being afforded by then manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Pogba joined Juventus on a free transfer -- although the Turin club had to pay a compensation fee of £800,000 -- and has won the Serie A title in each of his four seasons with the club, as well as reaching the 2015 Champions League final.

Scholes remembers Pogba from their brief time together in the United first-team, and insists that "he was a very talented player" but that "his agent was asking for a lot of money".

And although he recognises that Pogba has progressed during his time in Turin, he doesn't believe that United should be paying £100 million for the 23-year-old.

"For that money you would need a player who scored 50-plus goals a season, like Ronaldo or Messi," Scholes said.

Despite Scholes' concerns, it appears United are on the verge of what would be a world record deal to secure the services of Pogba, with reports in Italy today suggesting that a deal could be wrapped up by Wednesday.

Juventus are ready to reinvest the money they will receive for Pogba by launching a €94 million move for Napoli's Gonzalo Higuaín.
