Man Utd to return for Jose Fonte?
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will revive his pursuit for Jose Fonte only if the club manages to trim the squad. The Red Devils were keen on landing the Southampton defender over the summer, but a deal failed to materialise.
According to The Sun, the Special One is still interested in signing the Portugal international, but a deal will only go through if the club manage to offload one of their fringe players.
Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian are currently at risk at being sold, and this would enable United to recoup the £10m fee required to land Fonte from St.Mary's.
Meanwhile, Fonte has recently suggested that he is willing to commit his future to Southampton, should a contract offer be placed on the table.
The 32-year-old was a key player for Fernando Santos' side in the summer as they went on to lift the Euro 2016 crown, the first major honour in Portugal's history.
He is presently the most experienced figure at Southampton having joined them from Crystal Palace in January 2010.
