Darmian off to Inter

Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian has opted to make a return to Serie A once the transfer window reopens in the New Year. The Italy international has struggled to make himself a regular under Jose Mourinho this season.

Darmian, 26, joined the Red Devils from Torino last year, and was influential during the opening stages of the campaign.

However, as the games went by, he struggled to cope with the pace of the game, and was eventually replaced by Antonio Valencia in the right-back position.

With Mourinho having taken over the reigns this season, the versatile defender has failed to stake a claim for a starting role with club graduate Timothy Fosu-Mensah also being favoured ahead of him in the pecking order.

And this has finally urged him to pursue a fresh challenge with his agent having met up with Inter Milan to finalize a winter move.

Juventus and AC Milan have also been linked with the Italian, but the Nerazzurri have done enough to convince the player into a transfer.

Darmian has yet to make a league start for Manchester United this season.
