Carragher backs Man Utd for title challenge

TV pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has tipped Manchester United to mount a title challenge this season, despite their recent indifferent form, according to reports.

The Mirror is reporting that Sky Sports analyst and former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher believed that Manchester United will still mount a genuine challenge for the Premier League title this season, despite some of their recent performances being below the level expected of such an expensively assembled squad.

Carrahgher said on Sky that he still feels that Jose Mourinho’s men have what it takes to challenge for honours this season and overcome their recent difficult spell.

The Red Devils suffered three straight defeats in September, losing to Manchester City and Watford in the Premier League and Feyenoord in the Europa League.

Mourinho’s men then bounced back with three wins on the bounce, beating League One side Northampton Town in the EFL Cup third round, Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League and reigning champions Leicester City in the Premier League.

But in their most recent match, against a struggling Stoke City, United fell to a disappointing 1-1 draw, despite dominating the game and creating several goals scoring opportunities.

United spent around £150 million on summer transfers this year, bringing in Paul Pogba for a world record £89 million fee, as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly.
