Matteo Darmian news

Inter Milan are ready to offer £13.5 million for unsettled Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian, according to reports in Italy.

Italian newspaper Leggo is reporting that Inter Milan are in the hunt for a new right back during the January transfer window, and the Serie A giants have identified Manchester United’s Italian international defender Matteo Darmian as their primary target.

The Nerazzurri are reportedly ready to offer £13.5 million for the 26-year-old former Torino and AC Milan defender.

United signed Darmian in the summer of 2015 for £14 million from Torino and the player initially started well, adapting to life at Old Trafford quickly and producing some excellent early performances.

But as the season wore on, Darmian’s performances became more erratic and he was dropped to the bench and occasionally played out of position on the left side of defence.

This season, under new manager Jose Mourinho, Darmian had hardly featured, with Antonio Valencia – a winger by trade – being selected ahead of his. Teenager Timothy Fosu-Mensah now appears to be the second choice right back at Old Trafford, pushing Darmian further down the pecking order and making an exit seem inevitable.

United were linked with a move for Monaco defender Fabinho over the summer, but the Brazilian, who has been playing in central midfield for the Ligue 1 club this season, has recently signed a new long term contract at the Stade Louis II.
