Burnley have agreed on a £3.5m sum to sign Barnsley defender Marc Roberts this month. The 26-year-old will act as backup to first-choice centre-backs Michael Keane and Ben Mee.

Roberts has been in impressive form for the South Yorkshire club this season, and his performances have captured the attention of Sean Dyche's side.

According to The Guardian, the Clarets have moved in for the central defender with Kevin Long still on the recovery from a knee problem.

Roberts, who has just 18 months left on his Tykes contract, has made an excellent transformation from non-league football, and he will seek to impress with his first taste of top-flight action at Turf Moor.

The defender joined Barnsley in the summer of 2015 following spells with Wakefield, Worksop Town, Buxton, and most recently Halifax Town.
