Guardiola says a season without a trophy will be a failure

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has accepted that if his team fail to win any silverware this season, he will be deemed a failure. City are eleven points behind Chelsea in the Premier League, but also have opportunities to win two other trophies.

When Guardiola took over as manager of Manchester City in August, he came with a reputation of achieving success wherever he goes. The Spaniard's main priority is to develop a squad that can dominate for years to come, however he is very aware that a season without any trophies will be considered a failure for Manchester City.

This sort of pressure is not new to Guardiola. Looking back on his time as manager of Bayern Munich, he explains that many look at his spell as a disaster, despite his team's domestic dominance, because they failed to win the Champions League.

The Champions League is a competition that Manchester City are still in the running to win this season. They have a 5-3 lead over Monaco from the first leg, progressing to the quarter finals if they can replicate that in the second. A place in the FA Cup semi finals is also attainable for City, who face Middlesbrough in the quarter finals today.
