Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a summer approach for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who is also on the radar of Chelsea.

The 22-year-old has been one of the key performers for Lazio this season providing four goals and four assists in 25 league outings.

According to ESPN, United boss Jose Mourinho has sent scouts to watch the player on numerous occasions this campaign, and he is prepared to lodge an attempt for his services at the end of the season.

Milinkovic-Savic is normally regarded as a box-to-box midfielder, and he could the perfect replacement for Michael Carrick whose contract is due to expire in the summer.

Carrick, 35, has been a huge contributor to the United midfield over the years, but Mourinho is willing to move from the veteran, who appears to be considering retiring altogether from the game.

Lazio are expected to demand a fee of around £26m in order to let go of Milinkovic-Savic, who currently represents Serbia at the Under-21 level.

His brother Vanja - goalkeeper by trade, had previously joined the United academy in 2014 only to see himself fail to earn a work permit.
