Manchester United will reportedly make a £60m offer in order to prise away Paris Saint-Germain's Marquinhos from Barcelona in the summer.

The Red Devils are eager to recruit a new central defender in the off-season with Jose Mourinho often criticising the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling for their lack of commitment.

According to The Sun, via Globo Esporte, the Brazil international has emerged as the prime defensive option for the Mancunian giants following his decision to snub a fresh contract at Parc des Princes.

It is added that the Old Trafford outfit will table a record £60m bid for a defender as they seek to beat Barca, who had previously failed with a £42m approach for the centre-back.

Globo Esporte also suggests that Marquinhos is well aware of the United interest, and he is eager to work alongside Jose Mourinho in Manchester next season.

Marquinhos has appeared in over 150 outings for the outgoing French champions since arriving from Roma for £27m four years ago.
