Leicester put £50 million price tag on Schmeichel

Kasper Schmeichel news

Kasper Schmeichel was brought to Leicester during Sven Goran Eriksson's spell as manager

Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare has put a £50 million price tag on goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in an attempt to deter interest from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

30-year-old Schmeichel was a key player in Leicester's Premier League winning campaign in 2016 and made stand out performances during their Champions League journey last campaign.

After a dramatic improvement towards the end of last season, newly appointed permanent manager Shakespeare is looking to start the new campaign strongly and knows that he will need to keep his best players to do so.

Schmeichel has been with Leicester City since joining from Notts County in 2011, quickly becoming a favourite with the King Power Stadium faithful.

Liverpool and Manchester United have both reportedly shown interest in Schmeichel, as did Manchester City before they completed the signing of Ederson from Benfica.

The Sun reports that in an attempt to deter these clubs from pursuing Schmeichel, Leicester manager Shakespeare will put a £50 million price tag on his number one goalkeeper.

If a club was to offer that sort of money, it would smash the record transfer for a goalkeeper and provide The Foxes with plenty of money to find a suitable replacement.
