Upamecano on United radar?

Manchester United are reportedly considering a winter approach to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

The 19-year-old joined the Bundesliga outfit from sister club Red Bull Salzburg in January, and he has since made himself a regular in the starting lineup.

According to Calciomercato, United have been monitoring the centre-back's performances over the past few years, and are now planning to lodge a bid for his services in January.

However, Jose Mourinho's side are not the sole club interested in the teenager with rivals Liverpool and European big-spenders AC Milan also weighing up bids of their own for the Frenchman.

Upamecano joined Ralph Hasenhuttl's side for just £8.8m earlier in the year, but the club have since inserted a minimum release clause of £88m in his contract.

Manchester United presently have the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof as specialists in central defence, but Mourinho still appears keen on an additional recruit to compete on four fronts.
