German debutant Christian Pander scores a screamer as England lose 2-1 to Germany at Wembley in front of a sell-out crowd. The result will continue to pile the pressure on Steve Mcclaren.

England were particularly impressive early on with Micah Richards looking impressive, and he went on a fantastic run to beat two German defenders to set up Frank Lampard to smash the ball home in the ninth minute.

However, England's good work went punished as a cross from Schneider was turned on to the bar by Paul Robinson and Kevin Kuranyi was there to tap the ball home.

German debutant Christian Pander then wrapped up the game with a delightful goal from 25 yards.

The game was lively, with England looking bright in patches. Alan Smith and Michael Owen started up front, and Michael Owen came close to grabbing an equaliser and looked impressive throughout.

Frank Lampard also played well, and his goal was a well taken finish which will help to silence the boo boys who have criticised his recent England performances.

After the game Steve McClaren commented, "We had a great first 20 minutes where we deserved the goal then we had a ten-minute spell where what disappointed me was the way we defended for the two goals."

McClaren said he was impressed with several aspects of the England side especially Micah Richards and added he felt sorry for Paul Robinson who was very disappointed after the game.
