Blind optimistic of United stay beyond the summer

Netherlands international Daley Blind has stressed that he still has the backing of Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, and is willing to stay put to fight for his first-team position.

The 28-year-old's future has come under question this term after having failed to make a single Premier League start since the opening month of the campaign.

During this period, Blind has witnessed Ashley Young become the regular on the left side of the defence whilst an ankle problem has hampered his chances of earning any gametime since the turn of the year.

Speaking to Ajax Showtime Magazine, Blind has insisted that he is unperturbed by the ongoing gossip, and he is optimistic of prolonging his United stay, he said: "United still have faith in me. There are lots of transfer rumours surrounding United.

"That can happen at this level - this is Manchester United, and there is lots of competition for places. It's down to me to keep working hard, get as many minutes as possible and show what I can do."

Blind has worked his way back to first-team training in recent weeks, and his return to the starting lineup in the coming games may determine whether he has a future at the club. His current deal expires at the end of next season.
