Arsenal, Liverpool receive transfer boost on Max Meyer
Premier League duo Arsenal and Liverpool have been put on alert after Schalke 04 sporting director Christian Heidel confirmed that Max Meyer would be leaving the club this summer.
The Germany international has refused to pen a fresh deal with the Gelsenkirchen outfit despite a series of discussions and he is now expected to leave the side on a free transfer.
Speaking in a press conference on Thursday, Heidel confirmed the player's decision saying: "Max Meyer will definitely leave Schalke this summer. We're dealing with the situation very professionally. It's all been very amicable."
Meyer initially plyed his trade in an advanced midfield position but under Domenico Tedesco, he has evolved into more of a defensive midfielder whose strengths lie on the passing and ball interception skills.
Arsenal have long been linked with a move for the German footballer but they are likely to face competition from Liverpool among others including Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.
