Antonio Conte reacts to Chelsea's defeat at Newcastle United
Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte has admitted that the Blues were second best during the 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the final game of their Premier League campaign.
The west London side were up against a Magpies side which showed plenty of grit and determination and the Blues were eventually succumbed to a 3-0 loss at St James Park.
Speaking after the game, Conte admitted that his side deserved to lose to the Magpies who were the better team on the day, he said: "We deserved to lose because our start wasn't good and we suffered by losing every ball. Newcastle were more determined than us.
"We didn't lose our Champions League place today, we had chances in the last two games, but to finish the season this way is not good for anyone connected to the club."
Chelsea have a key FA Cup final against Manchester United next weekend and it will be interesting to see whether Conte will remain in charge for the Wembley showpiece.
The Italian was initially expected to be sacked following back-to-back defeats to Watford and Bournemouth in early 2018 but the club's decision to back him has not quite worked out in their favour.
