Manchester United are reportedly set to confirm the formal signing of Fred Shakhtar Donetsk this week. The Red Devils finalised a £47m deal for the Brazilian earlier in the month but the move has been put on hold for the past fortnight due to a work permit.

According to Sky Sports News, United have now managed to sort out the visa for the former Internacional man and they are expected to register Fred as their player before the end of the week.

Regardless of this, Jose Mourinho is supposedly keen on pursuing another top-notch midfielder during the transfer window with Marouane Fellaini showing no signs of penning an extension.

Fellaini has yet to prolong his contract beyond the end of the month and his departure is expected to encourage the need for another midfielder, who could play back-up to the starting lineup.

Aside from Fred, United have already unveiled the signing of Diogo Dalot from Porto. The Portuguese footballer has joined the club as more of an unknown after making just eight appearances for his former side.
