Emery highlights importance of keeping Ramsey

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has reiterated the importance of Aaron Ramsey to his first-team squad. The Welshman has transformed into a key contributor for the Gunners over the years but his future has come into question with his contract expiring in 12 months' time.

Speaking ahead of the Manchester City clash, Emery reaffirmed his desire to keep hold of Ramsey saying: "That’s not my work. For me it’s very important he stays with us. His experience here in Arsenal and the Premier League is very important and will give us all the information and performances in his quality."

Earlier this week, a report from The Telegraph suggested that Ramsey was close to penning an extension with the north London club but BBC's David Ornstein has since refuted those claims by suggesting that the Welshman is still far off from penning an extension.

Nonetheless, the Capital outfit will be hoping for a quick resolution over the midfielder's future, given they would not want him entering the final six months of his contract in the New Year. Ramsey has recently recovered from a calf problem and is in line to start in the season opener versus Manchester City.
