Berbatov warns Manchester United ahead of Champions League opener

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has issued his former side a warning ahead of their Champions League opener against Young Boys on Wednesday.

The former Bulgarian international has admitted that United are favourites to win in Switzerland, but warned the Old Trafford side not to underestimate their opponents or risk losing like they did against FC Midtjylland in the 2015-16 Europa League season.

“United are the strong favourites to win this but they’d better not underestimate Young Boys or we might see another upset like the 2-1 away loss to FC Midtjylland in the 2015-16 Europa League campaign,” Berbatov told Betfair, Manchester Evening News reports.

The former Tottenham Hotspur attacker reflected on United's Champions League campaign last season, saying that José Mourinho's men were not great, but have the chance to show their quality in the competition this time.

United were knocked out in the second round of last season's Champions League by Spanish side Sevilla, an outcome that did not go down well with United fans, especially with the defensive approach in the return leg at Old Trafford.
