Ferdinand makes Manchester United Champions League prediction
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand does not expect Jose Mourinho's men to do well in the UEFA Champions League this season.
Manchester United begin their European campaign with a trip to Switzerland to face Young Boys on Wednesday.
United are on the back of two consecutive English Premier League wins, with the latest coming against Watford last Saturday.
Ferdinand has highlighted the United defence as the weakling in their quest for success in Europe this season.
"The United defence is not strong enough and they’ve not reinforced, so I don’t see them doing well," Ferdinand told The Telegraph.
The former Leeds United defender also said that despite having a great goalkeeper like David de Gea, the inconsistencies in defence personnel will not help the club build a solid back.
After poor defensive displays in United's games against Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur this season, Jose Mourinho has started his last two matches with Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling at centre-back.
In those two games, United have conceded just once but the defence were greatly helped by the heroics of De Gea and the midfield protection of Marouane Fellaini.
