Premier League holders Manchester City are reportedly planning an approach for Lyon's Tanguy Ndombele at the end of the current campaign.

The 21-year-old was linked with a potential switch to the Citizens during the backend of the summer transfer window but they could not reach an agreement before the deadline.

Despite this, they have continued monitoring the France Under-21 international and according to The Express, a renewed attempt could be made in the summer of 2019.

The Citizens have been reliant on Fernandinho to perform the holding midfield duties over the past five-and-a-half years but Guardiola is said to be eyeing a suitable replacement with the Brazilian having entered the twilight of his career.

Ndombele, who is valued at around £45m, has made a bright start to the ongoing campaign with four assists contributed in the space of 13 games across all competitions.

Manchester City were initially keen on signing Jorginho to bolster the midfield during the summer but their reluctance in matching Napoli's asking price eventually saw Chelsea hijack the move.
