Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has indicated that his team lack the 'technical quality' from the back in order to get the better of the opposition.

United played out a goalless stalemate against Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday night and this extended their winless run to four games across all competitions whilst they are also without a victory at Old Trafford in the same number of matches.

Speaking after that game, Mourinho said that his players tried to raise the intensity on the field against Marcelino's men, although not all of them are capable of playing at that level.

He added that the squad are currently lacking in technical quality from the defence but admitted that the stalemate against Los Che was a fair result based on the team's performance.

"The players tried. They raised the level of their efforts. They raised the level of their intensity in spite of the fact we don't have many with that intensity. We don't have the technical quality to build from the back," he said.

Manchester United return to the Premier League for a game against Newcastle United on Saturday evening and anything less than a comfortable win may put Mourinho on the brink of being axed.
