Akanji speaks about his ambition to play for United

Switzerland international Manuel Akanji has revealed his ambition to play for Manchester United whom he has followed closely since his childhood days.

The 23-year-old only joined Borussia Dortmund from Basel in January but he has since built up his reputation after being ever-present in the Swiss defence during the summer World Cup.

In an interview with Bluewin, Akanji spoke about his ambition of featuring for the Red Devils, though his present focus is on succeeding with Dortmund, who are currently leading the Bundesliga standings.

"Many know that Manchester United has been my favourite club since childhood. It would be nice to play there, but that's not an issue right now. I am very satisfied in Dortmund," he said.

In his short time at Dortmund, Akanji has impressed with his intelligence and excellent distribution from the back and this is something which may attract United boss Jose Mourinho in the long run.

Mourinho recently suggested that his team lack the technical quality when it comes to building from the back and the club are expected to pursue at least one central defender during the winter transfer window.
