Pickford to replace De Gea next summer?

Manchester United have reportedly earmarked Jordan Pickford as the prime option to replace goalkeeper David de Gea, should the Spaniard continue with his contract standoff.

De Gea has been reluctant to pen fresh terms with United over the past year and this has spread speculation regarding his future with his existing deal expiring at the end of the season.

The Red Devils do have the option of an additional player on De Gea which they are expected to trigger but according to The Sun, they may still consider his sale next summer, if he fails to agree upon a fresh deal.

As a result, Pickford has been identified as the perfect replacement with the shot-stopper having become one of the Premier League's most-consistent performers between the sticks.

Pickford played a key role in England's progress to the World Cup semi-final during the summer and he was recently part of the Three Lions' side which sealed progress to the Nations League finals after beating Croatia.
