Portsmouth want Mertesacker

Per Mertesacker is reportedly the subject of interest from several Premiership sides. Mertesacker might only be 23 years old, but he has already played for his country over 40 times.

Harry Redknapp is a known admirer of the German international, and is set to table an £8 million offer to land the defender.

Thomas Schaaf, the Werder Bremen coach, has already made his feelings known about any Premiership interest in Mertesacker. Schaaf sees Mertesacker at Bremen for the forseeable future, however Bremen will find it difficult to reject a bid of such magnitude.
