Herrera close to United deal

Manchester United are reportedly close to committing midfielder Ander Herrera to a new long-term contract with the club.

The Spaniard has been with the Red Devils for the past four-and-a-half seasons but he has recently been fancied to leave the club with his contract expiring in four months' time.

However, according to The Mail, the club's hierarchy are making good progress towards prolonging his stay and the same could be finalised before the end of the campaign.

Herrera had been in-and-out of the starting lineup under former boss Jose Mourinho but he has managed to command a more meaningful role with interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the helm.

Meanwhile, United are also making progress towards extending the contract of Ashley Young, who has transformed his career since featuring for the club in the full-back positions.

The England international is likely to be rewarded with a one-year deal based on the club's policy for players aged above 30. He has made 25 appearances for Manchester United this term.
