Dimitar Berbatov urges Manchester United to sign Ajax star

Former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov has urged the Red Devils to target the signing of Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax to strengthen their backline ahead of next season.

The Netherlands international has developed leaps and bounds since making his debut for Ajax three years ago and he has been heavily touted to join Barcelona at the end of the campaign.

However, speaking to The Sun, Berba has suggested that United should look into the prospect of signing the Ajax skipper, given he has few weaknesses in his game at the tender age of 18.

"He [De Ligt] moves with grace and doesn't panic on the ball. He has everything you want from a defender. That guy will be an unbelievable player. He's a great talent and I hope United go for him in the summer and get him."

De Ligt has enjoyed a fantastic season with Ajax and the club are currently in the Champions League semi-final following his game-changing goal against Juventus in the previous round.

Ajax are also leading their league standings with a healthy goal difference over PSV Eindhoven and De Ligt has the opportunity to guide the team to a historic double come the end of the season.
