United fail with Onana move

Manchester United are reported to have failed with an opening bid worth £35m for the signature of Ajax shot-stopper Andre Onana.

The Red Devils are uncertain over the future of goalkeeper David de Gea with his contract expiring in 13 months' time and this has recently seen them linked with Barcelona's Jasper Cillessen.

However, according to The Record, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side appear focused on pursuing Onana instead and they have already had a £35m bid turned down by the Dutch champions.

Onana, who is a full Cameroon international, was previously in the ranks of Barcelona between 2010 and 2015, before he made the switch to the Dutch capital with Ajax.

He has since been their first-choice goalkeeper with nearly 150 appearances and recently helped them secure a domestic double for the first time since the 2001/02 season.

Aside from Onana, United have also been touted to pursue another Ajax star in Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutchman, who is also on the radar of Barcelona, is valued in the £60m range.
