Manchester United agree world-record deal for 26-year-old defender
Manchester United have reportedly agreed on a world-record package for a defender in order to land the signature of Harry Maguire from Leicester City this summer.
The Red Devils have been looking to pursue the defender in the past few weeks and Sky Sports recently revealed that they had failed with bids of £65m and £70m for the centre-back.
Despite this, the club have continued their pursuit of the 26-year-old and The Sun claims that they have now reached an agreement over a £80m package with the Foxes, which would make Maguire the most-expensive defender in the world.
The same publication claims that the Red Devils will pay £60m upfront for the England international while the remaining £20m will be settled in the form of performance-based add-ons.
At present, Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk remains the most-expensive defensive recruit after his £75m switch from Southampton to Liverpool in January 2018. The Dutchman recently helped the Reds secure the Champions League crown.
