Danny Murphy urges Liverpool to sign £80m-rated star
Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy has urged Liverpool to consider a move for Wilfried Zaha, who has been tipped to move to an elite European club this summer.
The Ivory Coast international has already been the subject of interest from both Arsenal and Everton but neither have been able to meet the Eagles' £80m asking price for the winger.
Speaking to TalkSPORT, Murphy said that the Reds should consider a possible move for Zaha this summer, considering he has the credentials to compete for the off.
He added that the former Manchester United man could provide the perfect back-up option and may not weaken the team in the absence of one of the regular frontmen.
"Someone like Zaha, I'm not necessarily suggesting him, but a player like him could go in there and really compete. He's the type of player who wouldn't really make them weaker if he was playing instead of [Sadio] Mane or [Roberto] Firmino," he said.
Liverpool have made no high-profile signings during the ongoing transfer window. Teenagers Sepp van den Burg and Harvey Elliot have signed for the club, but they are likely to be restricted to reserve team football next term.
