Manchester United are understood to have finally convinced goalkeeper David de Gea to pen a new long-term contract following weeks of negotiations.

The Spaniard has been in a contract standoff with the Red Devils for the past 18 months and this has spread speculation that he could leave the club on a free when his current deal expires at the end of the season.

According to The Times, the Red Devils have been in regular discussions with the player's representatives and they have eventually reached an agreement over the contract package with some key changes.

De Gea is set to become the highest-paid player at the club with a salary of around £250,000-a-week after tax with Alexis Sanchez currently plying his trade on loan with Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, every United player faces a 25 percent annual wagecut with the failure to qualify for the Champions League but they have decided to waive that condition for De Gea to commit his future to the side.
