Manchester United will reportedly release Ashley Young when his contract expires at the end of the ongoing campaign.

The 34-year-old has been with the club for the past eight-and-a-half years and of late, he has been handed with the captaincy whenever on the playing field.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has personally stated that he values the leadership qualities of the converted full-back but it appears that the veteran will eventually leave the club next summer.

According to Standard Sport, Young does not expect his contract to be renewed beyond the current season and he acknowledges that it's the right time to pursue another challenge.

Young is free to sign a pre-contract with an overseas outfit at the turn of the year and it remains to be seen whether he can attract any interest. He has made 15 appearances for United, scoring one goal in the process against AZ Alkmaar.

Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams are currently the other left-back options at the manager's disposal while Diogo Dalot is also capable of competing for the defensive position.
