According to Mirror, Manchester United are considering a move for Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Real Madrid turn out to be the front-runners for the Dutch prospect, who is rated around £50m.

The 22-year-old has become one of the coveted midfielders in Europe following his extraordinary season last term, helping Ajax reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Van de Beek has been tipped to make an exit from Amsterdam following the departures of his compatriots Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt last summer.

The Dutch midfielder has racked up 6 goals and 4 assists in Eredivise this season, while his goal and assists reached 30 in the previous season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is currently looking for much-needed reinforcement in the midfield following the injuries of Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.

The Norwegian manager sees Van de Beek as the one who could make an instant impact in place of the World Cup winner Pogba.

The Red Devils cite Ajax's failure to qualify for this season's Champions League's knockouts would be a key reason in luring Van de Beek to Old Trafford.

Solskjaer also admitted that United are in desperate need of new signings following their  Carabao Cup defeat against Manchester City.
