Manchester United midfielder to sign a new contract
Manchester United are reportedly considering the prospect of handing Nemanja Matic with a new contract beyond the ongoing campaign.
The Serbian was out-of-favour for most of the first half of the season but he has reclaimed a starting spot with the injuries to Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba.
United obviously have the option to extend Matic's contract, which expires in the summer by another 12 months, but they now seem prepared to offer him with a renewed deal beyond the 2020/21 season, The Sun claims.
AC Milan and Inter Milan have been heavily linked with the midfielder's services in recent weeks but neither are expected to make a move this month with United reluctant to sanction the midfielder's sale.
The injury setbacks for McTominay and Pogba have definitely played a part in their decision but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also appears to have been impressed with the commitment shown by Matic in recent weeks.
The Red Devils are currently in negotiations to sign long-term target Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese is widely expected to compete for the number 10 spot rather than hamper Matic's position.
