Van Persie recommends Cavani signing

Former Manchester United and Arsenal star Robin van Persie believes the Red Devils should consider a move for Edinson Cavani when his contract concludes with Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

The Mancunian giants were in the running to sign the Uruguay international from Les Parisiens last month but they decided against making an offer after knowing of the £16.8m price tag and Cavani's £360,000-a-week wage demands.

In a Q&A session on Twitter, Van Persie was asked by a United fan regarding a possible summer signing for the club and he picked the name of Cavani, whom he described as a 'brilliant player' and 'goal machine'.

"Edinson Cavani, brilliant player and available #GoalMachine," he tweeted.

United are unlikely to revisit their interest in the marksman during the summer unless he is prepared to take a reasonable paycut on his current salary at Parc des Princes.

Of course, the Red Devils won't need to settle a transfer package with Cavani's contract expiring in the summer but the player may still demand a significant signing-on fee to join them.
