Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms new contract for star midfielder
Manchester United manager Ole Gunar Solskjaer has confirmed that Nemanja Matic will remain with the club next season after having agreed on a contract extension.
The Serbian's existing deal was due to expire at the end of the current campaign but it was widely known that United have the option to extend his stay for another 12 months.
In a recent press conference, Solskjaer was asked about the future of Matic and he happened to indicate that the midfielder will definitely stay with the club for the forthcoming campaign.
"He will stay here. Yeah, 100 percent. We have agreed with him so he will stay," he told via Goal.com.
United recently picked up a 2-0 Premier League win over Manchester City and that has seen them reclaim the fifth spot in the standings. They are just three points behind Chelsea in the pursuit of a top-four place.
The Red Devils will be in Europa League action on Thursday night. They are scheduled to face Austrian side LASK on the road during the first leg of the round of 16 stage.
