Manchester United have reportedly been fancied to make a renewed approach to sign Matthijs de Ligt, who has struggled during his debut season in the Serie A.

The Netherlands international was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford from Ajax last summer but he eventually made the switch to the Bianconeri for a reported fee of around £65m.

De Ligt has since experienced a difficult season in the Italian top-flight, where he has managed just 17 starts and the majority of those have come due to the long-term injuries for Giorgio Chiellini and Merih Demiral.

According to The Star, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on pursuing another top-class centre-back in the summer despite the recent success of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof at the heart of the defence.

The Bianconeri are said to be looking at the prospect of re-signing Paul Pogba this summer and Solskjaer's side are planning to propose a part-exchange deal where De Ligt could move in the opposite direction as a makeweight.
