Liverpool still favourites to sign Bundesliga forward

Liverpool continue to remain the favourites to sign RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner during the next transfer window.

The German has been regularly linked with the Reds in recent months but reports have emerged that the club have yet to make a formal approach.

According to The Independent, the Merseyside outfit remain the front-runners to sign Werner ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United despite the lack of interest in recent months.

The same publication cites that the club will make contact with the Bundesliga outfit in the near future in order to reach an agreement over the transfer package.

The Reds can directly speak with the forward by triggering the £51m release clause before July but they are aiming to negotiate a lesser fee following the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Werner has been in superb form for the German outfit this term and he has contributed 27 goals and 12 assists from just 36 appearances across all competitions.
