Chelsea boss wants Belgian attacker at Stamford Bridge

Mertens tipped to sign for Chelsea

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has reportedly been in direct contact with Dries Mertens after following the Napoli attacker on Instagram earlier this month.

The Belgium international has stalled over a new deal with Napoli and he is likely to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

According to Il Mattino, the 33-year-old is the top name on the Blues' summer wishlist with Lampard recently following the player on his Instagram account.

It is added that the Blues boss has discussed his first-team plans for the experienced attacker, who is capable of playing anywhere across the attack.

The west London are likely to lose the services of both Pedro and Willian at the expiry of their respective contracts this summer and Mertens may provide the much-needed experience in a young Blues attack next term.

He has struggled with a few injuries during the current campaign but has still managed to contribute 12 goals and six assists from 29 games in all competitions.
