German star holding out for Liverpool transfer?
RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is reportedly determined to join Liverpool and could be prepared to wait for another 12 months.
The Germany international has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer but the Reds appear unlikely to make a bid due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly prepared to trigger the £52m release clause on his contract this summer but The Athletic reports that he is holding out for a move to Jurgen Klopp's side.
Werner has more than three years remaining on his contract at Leipzig but it is claimed that his buy-out clause will reduce from £52m to £36m at the end of the 2020/21 season.
There is a good chance that the Reds will retain their interest in signing him when the financial situation improves and Werner is prepared to stay put at Leipzig until next summer.
Werner has been in superb form for Leipzig this term and he has bagged 27 goals and 12 assists from 37 appearances in all competitions.
