Ighalo set for Shenhua return

Manchester United are set to lose the services of Odion Ighalo next week after failing to agree on a loan extension with Shanghai Shenhua.

The 30-year-old joined the Red Devils on a short-term loan in January and he made an instant impact with four goals from eight games before the coronavirus shutdown.

Earlier this month, it was suggested that the club could seek to extend the temporary contract of the striker beyond May but they have been unable to do so.

According to ESPN, Shenhua have informed the Nigerian that he must return to the club for pre-season training with the new league season set to begin from June 27.

Ighalo had previously expressed his desire to stay put at United for the long-term but his plans have been hampered by the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Shenhua have placed a £20m price tag on Ighalo's head for a summer exit but United have refused to meet the valuation. That is said to have contributed to Shenhua turning down the loan extension for Ighalo.
