Ighalo close to United loan extension?

The agent of Odion Ighalo has revealed that Manchester United are close to reaching a financial agreement with Shanghai Shenhua to extend the loan contract of the Nigeria international.

The 30-year-old joined the Red Devils on a short-term loan in January and he was able to make an instant impression with four goals and one assist before the season was suspended because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Earlier this afternoon, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted that Ighalo could potentially return to Shanghai at the end of the month when his temporary contract expires.

However, his agent Ladi Salami has revealed that talks are ongoing between the sides and the striker could potentially remain at Old Trafford for the rest of the campaign.

"The Super Eagle feels very good in Manchester with whom he is very close to a salary agreement. Negotiations with the Chinese are ongoing and are going well," he told Foot Mercato.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford has recently returned to group training after recovering from a back problem. Ighalo's gametime could be limited in the coming months with the Englishman's availability for selection.
